Thomas Gottschalk surprises again with his appearance

Television presenter Thomas Gottschalk is honored with the Diamond Romy award. The 75-year-old jokes around and at times seems overwhelmed during the live appearance. He himself felt he was “as usual.”

Kitzbühel – Presenter Thomas Gottschalk once again caused a stir with a television appearance. Two weeks after his much-criticized Bambi Awards hosting duties, he himself was honored on Friday evening with the Austrian television award, the Diamond Romy. He received the award in Kitzbühel in recognition of his television achievements. Once again, he seemed confused, his voice trembling at times. The entertainer was clearly unsettled, among other things, by the amount of time allotted to him.

The day after the appearance, he told the German tabloid “Bild” in retrospect: “I wasn’t so bad at all, I was as usual and didn’t offend anyone. I just tried to ingratiate myself a bit with the Austrians because I praised their sense of humor.” And: “Otherwise, I didn’t think what I delivered was so bad.”

“I’ll have to apologize again tomorrow.”

In his speech on Friday evening, the 75-year-old first thanked the audience. He then seamlessly transitioned to: “I’ll have to apologize again tomorrow. In Germany, because I said I prefer Austrian humor to German humor. But that’s just how it is.” This earned him applause.

At first, he spoke into the microphone slightly hunched over, then raised the microphone stand, which was clearly set too low, and explained: “In Germany, we have microphones that extend as far out of the floor as the speaker is tall. It wasn’t long enough for Otto, but for me, it needs to be a bit higher.”
