The Morning I Discovered a “Puppy” That Was Completely Unexpected
I encountered her one cool morning as I walked along a quiet path. Curled up tightly in the frost-covered grass, she resembled a tiny, newborn puppy—pink, hairless, and barely touching.
She was so delicate that it was almost impossible to tell if she was even breathing. Instinctively, I wrapped her in my scarf and hurried home. There, I placed her in a shoebox under a heat lamp and immediately took her to the nearest wildlife rescue center.
The staff gathered around her, perplexed, trying to determine what kind of animal she might be. After consulting with specialists, they discovered something unexpected: she wasn’t a puppy, but a domestic rabbit, only a few days old.
Since there were no rabbit nests or known rabbit owners or breeders in the area, no one could explain how such a vulnerable baby could have been left alone.
The mystery deepened when a couple contacted the center, reporting that their golden retriever had picked up something tiny that morning and tried to bring it to them.
They had assumed it was an old toy and hadn’t realized he’d discovered the same small animal I later found.
